  1. To correctly view this Tutorial the first time, make sure you are in
  2. the ASCII Mode, Opposite Scroll Mode and BlankIgnore is On.  If you are 
  3. not sure, press [C] and set these two modes in the Configuration 
  4. Function.  The directions on the end of each line (in CAPITAL LETTERS) 
  5. will demonstrate the various features. <--PRESS [*] WHEN READY TO BEGIN

  12. Press ScrollLock to scroll the files independently.  Now use 
  13. [Right/Left] arrows to re-align the cursor in File 1, [Shift-Right/
  14. Shift-Left] arrows to move the cursor in File 2.

  26. After finding the mismatches (x's), use [C]onfigure-[F10] to edit the 
  27. characters to ignore and add [x] to the list (Hex 78), then try Find 
  28. Next Mismatch again ([*]).  You will find that none of the mismatched x's 
  29. will be found this time around.

  31. NOTE:  In HEX mode, use the [Left]/[Right] keys to move the cursor
  32. in file 1 (or [Ctl-Left]/[Ctl-Right] if this file is loaded as file 2),
  33. to re-align the files before searching for Next Mismatch.

  43.   
  44.   1.   ASCII Mode.  A key improvement in DoubleTake, Version 2.0,
  45.   is the implementation of a fully functional ASCII viewing mode. 
  46.   In Versxion 2.0 ASCII Mode and Hex mode share many features:
  47.   
  48.        o    Fully scrollable forward or backwards, any length file.
  49.

  61.             press the Right/Left arrows.  Starts with Twin Cursor

  64.        o    FindString highlights the found string (in case you
  65.             want to save the block to a clip file.)

  67.        o    FindString, FindNexxtMismatch and Align Files remain at
  68.             the current spot in the file if you do not find a
  69.             string, mismatch or a spot to align in a file.

  71.        o    Added ability to enter Hex or Decimal codes when x
  72.             searching for a string.  (to search for non-printing
  73.             charcters, such as CR or LF or TAB).  Use no quotes if
  74.             entering just a sxtring;  Use quotes if you want to mix
  75.             hex ($20 (space character) for example) and decimal
  76.             (\032 (space character) for example) along with the
  77.             strings.

  79.        o    DoubleTake provides a configurable Align files
  80.             function.  Pressing AltA lets you choose: 
  81.   
  82.                  1) which file to align with which, 
  83.                  2) how much of the "Align-with" file to search for
  84.                       in the "bring-into-alignment" file, 
  85.                  3) which wxay to search for in the "bring-into-
  86.                       alignment" file, 
  87.                  4) how many characters to check in the "bring-
  88.                       into-  alignment" file and 
  89.                  5) whether to ignore upper/lower case in the
  90.                       search.  If Blank Ignore is on, all "IGNORE"
  91.                       characters are ignored in finding a match.

  93. (NOW TRY THE ALIGN FUNCTION BY PRESSING [ALT-A], [2] AND [ENTER].  YOU
  94. SHOULD SEE FILE 2 MOVE FORWARD ONE CHARACTER TO ONCE MORE ALIGN WITH FILE

  97.   2.   In addition, ASCII Mode has the fxollowing features:
  98.   
  99.        o    ASCII Mode has configurable End of Line characters. 
  100.             The default characters are Carriage Return (ASCII code
  101.             hex $0D), Line Feed ($0A), CR with high bit set
  102.             (WordStar, ASCII code $8D) and Linefeed with high bit
  103.             set ($8A).  You can choose your own End of Line codes
  104.             to adapt DoubleTake to your specific word processor.
  105.   
  106.        o    Either one or two xcharacter End of Line characters can
  107.             be handled.  DoubleTake recognizes Carriage Return (CR)
  108.             and Linefeed (LF) as the end of a single line.  If the
  109.             same End of Line character occurs twice in sucession,
  110.             DoubleTake assumes that this file only uses the one
  111.             character to indicate End of Line and will reflect two
  112.             lines, one for each End of Line character.

  114.        o    DoubleTake shows either Line xNumber Mode or Show Byte
  115.             At  Cursor Mode.  In the Line Number Mode, DoubleTake
  116.             shows the actual line in the file
  117.        o    
  118.   
  119.        o    ASCII Mode uses the Tab and Shift-Tab keys to scroll
  120.             the screen right or xleft to view lines wider than the
  121.             screen width.  Can scroll either file independently or
  122.             both together.  A Quick-Return-to-Column-One key
  123.             (RightShift-Tab) returns both files to the left margin)

  125.        o    Added the ability to highlight a block and write it to
  126.             a clip file of your own choice.  Two clip files are
  127.             available, one for each file, but you may change either
  128.             or both clip files as you cxhoose.  Clip filenames
  129.             default to the same filename as the compared file, with
  130.             the extension of ".CLP," but you can change any part of
  131.             the name
  132.   
  133.        o    You can enter a new filename, overwrite an existing
  134.             clip file or contixnuously add to the end of it.
  135.   
  136.          Now that a file can be read successfully in either Hex or
  137.   ASCII mode, DoubleTake does not check a file for non-printing
  138.   characters -- it starts in the mode you set when you configured
  139.   the file.
